Dear Foster Carers Association Chairperson
I am hoping that you may be able to help spread the word for us about Independent Support Annual Subscription (ISAS). ISAS is a way of retaining high quality comprehensive support to Foster Carers subject to allegations and complaints which might threaten their Registration.
To be accused of harming a child or placing at risk of harm a child in your care is devastating. Foster Carers above all else come into the profession to make a positive difference, and so to have this intention disbelieved, even for a short time, can be very hard to manage.
This is where Independent Support in line with Government Guidance (Protecting Children Supporting Foster Carers: 2006) becomes essential. Providing face to face emotional support, telephone support, advocacy by attending meetings and help with writing reports.
However, due to the current freeze in Public Spending there is a real threat that this support will be severely restricted as Local Authorities and Independent Fostering Agencies attempt to make cuts in expenditure. We have already experienced a 25% reduction in agreement to fund……However;
Foster Carers are now able to purchase ISAS themselves (includes all members of the household) for just £52 per year, thereby maintaining the security that a professional advocate will be made available to guide and support them through the process. Fostering Support Ltd are leaders in this field, and with 10 years of experience backing our practice feel certain that Foster Carers will want to take advantage of this offer.
If you would like us to attend and speak with your group, or request any further information please do not hesitate to ask. Our edited version DVD (also available to view on the FSL website, next tab) where John and Lin discuss the devastation of being falsely accused and the vital support we provided, will be sent free of charge for you to show at your next meeting; just let us know.
By the many subscribing to ISAS, the few when in desperate need will get the expert help that makes the difference between continuing the job you love and deregistration. We know that one in three Foster Carers will be in this position, what we don’t know is who.
Hoping that you can help
Kindest regards, Debra Gibbs-Baker;
Director Fostering Support Ltd
